Shimazome is a new original fabric from A&S. It is hand-dyed using an adaptation of traditional dyeing techniques from Amami Ōshima, known for its dorozome (mud dyeing), and was born from our pursuit of new and distinctive colors. The name, meaning “island dyeing,” expresses our hope that, like Shimauta—the folk songs passed down through the islands of the Nansei archipelago—this dyeing method will be cherished and passed on for generations to come.
